Breaking news: UHC to purchase St. Joseph's Hospital

According to a press release, "United Hospital Center and the West Virginia United Health System have reached a preliminary agreement with Pallottine Missionary Sisters for the transfer of sponsorship of St. Joseph's Hospital of Buckhannon to UHC."
The announcement further states that the leadership and staff at the hospital will remain in place and services will continue as normal.

Man caught breaking into car

BUCKHANNON -- A Buckhannon man was caught in the act after allegedly breaking into a car Thursday night.
Upshur County Sheriff's deputies Cpl. Jason Queen, Sgt. Marshall Powers and Cpl. D. Linger, along with West Virginia State Police units, responded to a reported breaking and entering into a Jeep Cherokee parked at Wendling plaza, according to the criminal complaint

Heater to spend life in prison

BUCKHANNON -- The Upshur County Circuit Court upheld the jury's recommendation of life without mercy in sentencing a man found guilty in a murder-for-hire plot.
Jessie Lee Heater, 30, of Buckhannon, was convicted in June of the first-degree murder of Joshua Oberg,concealment of a deceased human body, conspiracy to commit murder and conspiracy to conceal a deceased human body.

BUCKHANNON -- The Upshur County Commission welcomed its new county administrator this past week.
Kelley Cunningham, who came to the commission after the last 16 years as an assistant prosecuting attorney in Upshur County, began her first week by attending the County Commissioners Association of West Virginia annual meeting and training in Huntington with the commission and staff.

Firefighters rescue dog from burning home

BUCKHANNON -- A fire caused extensive damage inside a residence Thursday afternoon, but firefighters were able to carry a dog suffering from smoke inhalation from the burning structure.
The home's owner, Dave Smith, said he was at work when his daughter Brittany came to tell him their home on the Holbrook Road was on fire.

Man sentenced on sex charge involving family member

BUCKHANNON -- After being in jail for the last 17 months, a Rock Cave man was officially sentenced this week for the sexual abuse of a family member.
