The man accused of murdering a Virginia woman in January was indicted Monday in Upshur County Circuit Court. Ridge Lee Huffman, 19, of Stuarts Draft, Va. and Buckhannon, was indicted for the first-degree murder of Rebekah Gibson on January 28. Gibson was found in a vehicle outside the home of Huffman’s father.
The grand jury handed down 28 indictments Monday to 27 different individuals.
Samuel Thomas Workman, 21, of Buckhannon, was indicted for nighttime burglary, a felony; retaliation against a public employee, a felony, two counts; assault in the commission of a felony, a felony; domestic battery, second offense, a misdemeanor; obstructing an officer, a misdemeanor; battery on a police officer, a misdemeanor; destruction of property, a misdemeanor; and intimidation of a witness, a misdemeanor. On April 25, 2009, Workman allegedly broke into the home of his child’s mother, striking her in the face, choking her and dragging her by the hair. During the incident, Workman also allegedly threatened to kill and burn down the house of Deputy First Class C.J. Day. When restrained by handcuffs, he also allegedly kicked Day in the chest.
Alan Lee Stanley, 29, of Buckhannon, was indicted for kidnapping, a felony; sexual assault in the first degree, a felony, three counts; abduction of a person, a felony; and assault in the commission of a felony, also a felony. On January 26, 2009, Stanley allegedly kidnapped his estranged wife, holding the victim against her will and sexually assaulting her.
Walter Whitten Viney, 41, of Princeton, W.Va., was indicted for failure to provide support to a minor, a felony. Between April 15, 1995 and March 31, 2009, Viney allegedly failed to provide $536.33 per month for his three children and now owes $44,714.24 with $29,372.90 in arrears and $15,341.34 in interest.
Edgar Charles Ware, 58, of Belington, was indicted for failure to provide notice of change in sex offender registration information, a felony, two counts. Between December 8 and December 30, 2008, Ware allegedly failed to notify the Buckhannon detachment of the West Virginia State Police of his employment. The second count states that Ware failed to notify the detachment of his loss of employment between December 12, 2008 and January 2009.
Christopher Scott Wright, 25, of Adrian, was indicted for sexual assault in the first degree, a felony, and indecent exposure, a misdemeanor. On November 7, 2008, Wright allegedly sexually assaulted a then 7-year-old girl and exposed himself to the child. The incident occurred on the playground of Holly Apartments in Adrian.
Michael David Simons, 18, of Buckhannon, was indicted for breaking and entering, a felony. On April 14, 2009, Simons allegedly broke into Buckhannon Lanes with the intent to steal, take and carry away personal property, chattel, effects and property.
Theresa E. Mackey, 37, of Volga, was indicted for possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, with intent to deliver, a felony. Mackey allegedly possessed marijuana on September 30, 2008.
Thomas W. Bonnell Jr., 34, of Buckhannon, was indicted for driving while license revoked for DUI, third or subsequent offense, a felony, two counts. Bonnell allegedly drove a 1995 Jeep Cherokee on Route 151 on March 4, 2009 and a 1990 Chevy Cavalier on Route 151 on May 4, 2009. He had prior convictions in Lewis County on December 4, 2008 and in Harrison County on December 8, 2008.
Jennifer Lynn Wentz, 34, of Buckhannon, was indicted for child neglect creating a risk of injury, a felony, stemming from a September 18, 2008 incident in which she allegedly left her 1-year-old child at home and drove in a vehicle to Kesling Mill.
Danielle Lynn Pickens, 20, of Ireland, W.Va., and Thomas Ray Shipley, 34, of Buckhannon, were both indicted for forgery and uttering, felonies, and conspiracy, a felony, two counts. On December 18, 2008, the two allegedly forged another person’s name on a check at Wal-Mart for $200.
Randall Jay Gifford, 40, of Buckhannon, was indicted for nighttime burglary, a felony, and grand larceny, a felony. Gifford allegedly broke into a home on Thurman Avenue on February 6, 2009 and stole jewelry and a Wal-Mart gift card all valued at approximately $1,485.
Ricky Nelson Richter Sr., 42, of Weston, was indicted for breaking and entering, a felony, and destruction of property, a misdemeanor. Richter allegedly broke into the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, breaking a stained glass window and regular widow, on August 30, 2008.
Izzy Mae Youtzy, 23, of Buckhannon, was indicted for grand larceny, a felony. Youtzy allegedly stole a 2003 Dodge 2500 Ram 4x4 diesel truck valued at $19,000 from another individual.
Lora Lee Simons, 30, of Buckhannon, was indicted for forgery and uttering, felonies. In April 2008, Simons allegedly forged a check from the R&R Lounge for $25.
Shawn Allen Hudson, 23, of Collinsville, Ill. was indicted for failure to provide changes in sex offender registration information, a felony, and failure to provide changes in sex offender registration, second offense, a felony. Hudson allegedly moved to Holly Apartments on October 25, 2008 but failed to notify the Buckhannon detachment of the West Virginia State Police within 10 days. He had a first conviction of failing to register as a sex offender in May 2007.
Mark Christopher Heater, 38, of Buckhannon was indicted for failure to provide changes in sex offender registration, a felony, eight counts. Between June and August 2008, Heater allegedly failed to notify the Buckhannon detachment of the West Virginia State Police that he sold a 1991 Chevy Cavalier and that between August and November that he owned a 1994 Ford F-150. Heater also failed to report he sold a 1998 Jeep Cherokee between June and July, 2008 and used a mid-1990s Chevy truck which he failed to report he sold between July and September 2008. Between January and February, 2009 Heather allegedly failed to report that he used a tan/gold F-150 truck and that he had access to a 1994 Nissan pick-up between December 2008 and February 2009. Finally, Heater allegedly failed to disclose that between December 2008 and February 2009, he lived with his daughter.
Heater was also indicted for transferring stolen goods, a felony. Heater allegedly transferred a 2006 Suzuki King Quad four-wheeler valued at $5,000 to two other individuals, and allegedly knew or had reason to believe it was stolen.
Howard J. Landers II, 18, of Buckhannon and Billy Scott Heater, 18, no address listed, allegedly received the stolen four-wheeler and were indicted for receiving stolen goods, a felony; and conspiracy, a felony.
Michael Wayne Hoover, 38, of Buckhannon, was indicted for malicious assault, a felony, stemming from a March 10, 2009 incident in which he allegedly hit another individual causing serious bodily injury.
Thomas Bristow Jr., 19, of Mullica Hill, N.J., was indicted for malicious assault, a felony. Bristow allegedly hit another individual in the head with a glass beer mug at Allburgers Appalachian Pub on February 13, 2009.
Jack Conner, 36, of Adrian, was indicted for forgery and uttering, felonies, three counts. On October 25, 2008, Conner allegedly forged checks for $202.78 and $188.34 to Wal-Mart from another person’s account.
Richard Scott Duke, 27, of Buckhannon, and Delsey Jean Menge, 34, of Sedalia, Mo. were indicted for bringing into the state property stolen in another state, a felony; conspiracy, a felony, two counts; possession of stolen vehicle, a felony; false evidences, forgery, etc., of title and registration, a felony; and obstructing an officer, a misdemeanor.
The two allegedly brought a 1994 Toyota 4Runner stolen from another state to Upshur County, falsifying the registration and more. Menge also gave a fake name to officers originally.
David Confere, 61, of Buckhannon, was indicted for sexual assault in the first degree, a felony, two counts; sexual abuse by parent, guardian or custodian, a felony, three counts; and sexual abuse in the first degree, a felony, two counts.
Confere, 61, allegedly sexually assaulted an 8-year-old and 4-year-old girl in November 2008 and a 10-year-old girl on January 17, 2009.
Tony Ray Metzler, 44, of Buckhannon, was indicted for daytime burglary, a felony, and grand larceny, a felony. Metzler, allegedly broke into an Ellamore home between June and July 2007 and stole a bathroom shower, 110 and 220 electrical wiring, electrical breakers, underpinning, sinks, water lines and light fixtures valued at $2,039.
