BUCKHANNON — For the second time in five years, city residents may see an increase in their water bill come Jan. 1.
On Thursday, Buckhannon City Council approved the final reading of Ordinance 369, which establishes new rates for water customers. The last increase came in 2007, but prior to that the rate had stayed the same for 23 years.
If approved by the Public Service Commission, the new rates will be effective Jan. 1.
Local resident Jim Marsh asked several questions at a public hearing convened prior to Thursday’s city council meeting, including how the increase was calculated.
Doss said it is a 15 percent increase for residential and commercial rates and the minimum meter charge.
