ELKINS — A former Buckhannon police officer has filed a lawsuit against the City of Buckhannon and its chief of police alleging she was not paid for overtime work she did at home taking care of the K-9 she was assigned.
Loralie Hissam, who was employed by the City of Buckhannon’s police department from August 2008 to January 2011, when she resigned, spent two years as the K-9 police officer and handler for Tess.
The lawsuit filed Monday in United States District Court in Elkins states that Hissam was required by the City of Buckhannon and Chief Matt Gregory to provide for the total care of the police dog that was owned by the City of Buckhannon and the Buckhannon Police Department.
