BUCKHANNON — The City of Buckhannon is exploring a requirement that would limit how far employees can live from the corporate limits in case of an emergency.
Cities are able to establish residency requirements for their employees, according to State Code Chapter 8, Article 5, Section 11.
Already the police department has a policy requiring officers to reside within 15 road miles from any point of the corporate boundaries of the city, according to city attorney Dave McCauley.
McCauley said he met with mayor Kenny Davidson, city recorder Rich Clemens, city administrator Michael Doss, fire chief Mitch Tacy and police chief Matt Gregory to begin discussing a possible residency requirement for all public safety personnel.
