BUCKHANNON — It was all in the timing Sunday when officers from the Buckhannon Police Department happened to be right around the corner when a 911 call came in about a possible break-in on Park Street.
There, officers found Cameron Smith, 18, of Mechanicsville, W.Va., inside the residence. They arrested him for burglary.
“He was actually still in the residence when Jose [Boursiquot] arrived on scene,” BPD chief Matt Gregory said. “Jose shined his spotlight onto the house and could see the guy in the light.”
Boursiquot arrived at the residence at 3:50 a.m. Sunday with Patrolman First Class Nick Caynor and observed that the front door was ajar and pry marks were present on both the door frame and door handle, according to the criminal complaint in the Upshur County Magistrate Clerk’s office.
Boursiquot instructed Smith to step out of the residence with his hands up, but Smith allegedly failed to respond.
