City to use cameras to stop illegal dumping at recycling station

Posted: Sunday, Feb 17th, 2013

New video cameras will soon continuously monitor Crossroads Recycling Center.

BUCKHANNON The City of Buckhannon is about to crack down on illegal dumping at the Crossroads Recycling Center, according to street commissioner and waste department supervisor Jerry Arnold during a presentation to the Buckhannon City Council last Thursday evening.

Arnold announced to council that the Waste Board met and approved $22,500 for new video cameras to be installed at the recycling center. The cameras will assist the city in identifying people illegally dumping their trash. The monies will also be used for new signage, site improvements and upgrading the condition of the recycling bins.

The new video monitoring system will allow for the recycling center to have 24 hour/

7 day surveillance.

In addition to the video monitoring system, Arnold said a new ordinance is currently being drafted that will allow the local municipal courts to fine people illegally dumping at the recycling center.
