Police arrest man wanted in Illinois without incident

The Buckhannon detachment of the West Virginia State Police arrested a man wanted from Illinois who had allegedly kidnapped a child on Friday.

The incident began late Friday morning as Lewis County authorities learned of a capias warrant for David Tapia, 46, of the Crawford area.

Lewis County Sheriff Adam Gissy said, “We had a phone call from Illinois that an individual who had been residing in the southern end of Lewis County, off of Route 4, had abducted a child and was concealing her at that address at Route 4.

“When the sheriff’s office and the state police went there to get the child back, he was no longer there. Through some investigation, we learned that he was possibly heading toward the Tennerton area of Upshur County
