SHENANDOAH JUNCTION — The Jefferson Cougars broke the Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers’ four-game winning streak Saturday, defeating the Bucs 3-0 in a non-conference soccer matchup.
Brett Stuart scored the game’s lone first-half goal nine minutes into play and Catalino Leon sparked the Cougars with a goal and an assist in the second half, helping the host Cougars creep above .500 at 4-3-4 overall. The Bucs fell to 10-7-0 heading into Tuesday’s home match against Elkins.
“This was another game where we possessed the ball and kept control and created shots, but just couldn’t finish,” B-U head coach Mike Donato remarked. “Jefferson is a very athletic and fast team, and took advantage of the chances they got, where we couldn’t do the same."
