INSTITUTE — The West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats upset the sixth-seeded West Virginia State Lady Yellow Jackets on the road Monday evening in the opening round of the WVIAC Women’s Basketball Tournament, securing a spot in the quarterfinal round at the Charleston Civic Center.
Brittany Maxey and Atavia Blake both posted double-doubles Monday to lead the Lady Bobcats to a 66-56 win. Maxey scored a game-high 17 points and Blake followed with 14, with both players grabbing 11 rebounds.
Maxey and Blake led Wesleyan on the boards on a night when the Lady Bobcats out-rebounded West Virginia State by a 47-33 margin, which they turned into a 17-5 advantage in second-chance points.
