ATLANTA ó†Despite an illness suffered during the spring which interrupted her training schedule, an Upshur County swimming star still brought home a fifth-place finish and two appearances in the consolation finals at the recent 2013 YMCA Long Course National Championships.
Maggie Miller, a rising junior at Buckhannon-Upshur High School, competed in four events at the elite national competition, held at Georgia Tech University. She advanced out of the preliminary rounds in all three of her backstroke swims, competing in the consolation finals and placing 13th in both the 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke, and sprinting to a fifth-place finish in the 50 backstroke.
