Ruth Page Rice, 95, of Weston and formerly of Clarksburg and Rock Cave, died Tuesday, February 2, 2010, following a brief illness.
She was born November 10, 1914, at French Creek, a daughter of the late Asa Dell Page and Elsie Bunten Page-Lake. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vaughn Westbrook Rice, who died, May 21, 2000.
She is survived by four daughters; Vonda Kay and husband, Ben Wetzel of Weston, Judith Ann and husband, Stanley Talago of Flemington; Nancy Lee and husband, William DeLaney of Albuquerque, N.M.; and Linda Lou and husband, Eugene Swecker of Valley Head; nine grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter Cynthia Ruth Rittenhouse, three grandchildren: Michael C. Wetzel, Mark S. Wetzel and Amy Lee McLaughlin, one sister, Martha Albaugh and one brother, Charles French Page.
Mrs. Rice entered West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1934 as a sophomore, and graduated in 1989 at age 74. She was a member of the Emeritus Club of WVWC, the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority and the 4-H All Stars. Descendants of the French Creek Pioneers and the Eastern Star 82 of Rock Cave.
In 1956 she was one of the first women to obtain her ham radio license in the state of West Virginia, where she has been active for over 50 years with the call K8ARA. She was also a member of the Q.C.W. A. Mrs. Rice was a former member of the Broad Oaks Methodist Church and the French Creek Presbyterian Church. At her death she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Buckhannon.
Friends were received at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held today, Friday, February 5, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the funeral chapel with Rev.
