TENNERTON ó Billy D. Burnside, 77, of the Junior Burnside Road, Rock Cave, died Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at his home. He was born on July 31, 1935, in Upshur County, a son of the late Doyle E. and Hettie Marie Davidson Burnside. On Aug. 2, 1961, he was united in marriage to Carol Rice Burnside who survives. Also surviving is one sister Betty Snyder and husband Carl of Rock Cave and one brother Don Burnside and wife Bertha of Rock Cave. In addition, Carolís brother Richard Rice survives, whom Billy and Carol raised. Thirty nieces and nephews survive, of which many of them at some point called Uncle Bill and Aunt Carolís home their home. Several great nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by one sister Helen Marie Burnside and three brothers: Robert, Basil, and Junior Burnside.
Mr. Burnside was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Canaan Community Church where he served as a trustee and treasurer. He was also a member of Local Laborers Union 379 and the Upshur County Retired School Employees. He was a long-time construction worker for Ben-Tom Corporation.
The body will lie in state at the Canaan Community Church on Saturday, June 29, 2013, from 11 a.m.-noon, the funeral hour, with Rev. Junior Harris officiating. Interment will follow in the Canaan Cemetery where the Upshur County Honor Guard will conduct military services.
