JANE LEW — Bennie Elwood Carpenter, 73, of Buckhannon, passed away peacefully at 9:18 a,m, on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014 in the United Hospital Center of Bridgeport, surrounded by his loving family, having sadly experienced complications from a broken heart after losing his wife just a month ago.

He has now been joyously reunited in heaven with the love of his life, Linda Faye Carpenter who he married on Oct. 7, 1961 and they enjoyed 52 years of marriage together before her passing on Dec. 7, 2013.

Bennie was born on Nov. 10, 1940 in Cabin Creek , a son of the late John Morgan Carpenter and Eva Marie Callahan Carpenter.

His lovingly stubborn spirit will be carried on by his two sons: Rick Carpenter and wife Donna of Volga and Jeff Carpenter and wife Penney of Buckhannon; four daughters: Renee Miller and husband Jeff of Barboursville, Va., Keena Sanders and husband Gerald of Buckhannon, Sherry Berkenstock of Clarksburg, and Benetta Deynzer and husband Paul of Buckhannon; one brother, Emmett Carpenter and wife Pat of Mineral Ridge, Ohio; one sister, Louella Tingler of Newton Falls, Ohio; 14 grandchildren: Joey Carpenter, Roxy Wilson, Justin Ritter, Kenna Cable, Nicole Arington, Ryan Miller, Dustin Sanders, Autumn Riley, Cody Berkenstock, Krystin Butcher, Ericka Reed, Devin Carpenter, Logan Carpenter and Payton Deynzer; 22 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and his beloved poodles, Sassy and Shiloh, who were his faithful companions.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: Holbert, Jack and Herman Carpenter and one sister, Gladys Carpenter.

Bennie was retired from Corhart Refractories in Buckhannon with several years of service and was a member of the NRA and the United Steelworkers Union. He enjoyed frequenting the Rogers Flea Market, watching the History Channel, listening to bluegrass music and working on antique cars. He was known for his strong convictions in faith, humor and family.

He often told his children to “Keep the Faith” and remember that “six strands are stronger than one,” as a reminder to always love one another and work together for the common good. He treasured every moment spent with his family, especially spoiling his grandchildren.

Bennie’s request for cremation has been honored and a going home celebration was held at The Way of Holiness Church in Buckhannon on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Jerry Murrell officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family to offset medical expenses and sent to: Renee Miller, Executor 5208 Rt. 20 South Rd. Buckhannon WV 26201. The Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service of 144 Hackers Creek Rd in Jane Lew is honored and privileged to serve the family of Bennie Carpenter.
