LEXINGTON, Ky. — Anita Pearl (Wilson) Mason, 77, widow of Nelson Leroy Mason, Sr., passed away Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014 in Lexington, Ky.
She was the daughter of the late Mardis Glen and Velma Pearl (Reynolds) Wilson. She was born and raised in Rock Cave, and was a graduate of Buckhannon-Upshur High School.
She is survived by son John Reynolds Mason and daughter Anita Joi Mason McHugh and husband James Arthur McHugh, all of Lexington, Ky. Also surviving are two sisters: JoAnn Appling of Ocala, Fla. And Janis Merrill of Ft. Collins, Colo. and one brother, Eugene Wilson of New York.
In addition to her husband parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Nelson Leroy Mason Jr., two sisters: Maxine Wilson and Mary Leist and three brothers: Aubry A. Wilson, Mardis Glenn Wilson Jr. and James Audis Wilson.
Mrs. Mason was a retired school teacher at Tates Creek Senior High School in Lexington, Ky. She had a passion in all aspects of gardening and horticulture that she pursued with her usual tenacity. She was gifted in many ways pertaining to gardening culture and was an inspiration to students and friends at the University of Kentucky Horticultural Department where she assisted in the woody ornamentals classes. Her generosity of giving her plants and expertise to friends was appreciated by all who knew her.
Friends were received at the Milward Funeral Home Home, Southland branch, in Lexington, Ky. on Monday, Jan. 13, 2014 at 11 a.m. with services to follow at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in the Lexington Cemetery. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.milwardfuneral.com.
