CARY, N.C. — Raymond “Brownie” Watts, 93, of Holly Springs, N.C. formerly of Ellamore, died Monday, September 24, 2012 at Heartsfield Assisted Living in Cary.
Raymond was born September 20, 1919 in Ellamore to the late Zeno Varner Watts and Bertha Talbot Watts. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army and owner/operator of Watts Country Store. Raymond was a true sportsman and enjoyed the outdoors.
He was also an avid bowler for over 50 years. Raymond was a member of Gertrude Chapel United Methodist Church in Ellamore and he could say as the Bible says “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Ethel Watts who died in 2005; and nine brothers and sisters.
Raymond is survived by his son Randall Watts and his wife, Carol Sue of Morrisville, N.C.; daughter, Sherry Watts Lowery and her husband, Terry of Holly Springs, N.C.; brother, Charles Watts of Buckhannon; four grandchildren, Darrell; Christina; Ashley; and Kelly; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m .Thursday, September 27, 2012 at Westwood Baptist Church, 200 Westhigh Street, Cary, NC 27513. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. Burial will follow at a later date at Mt. Union Cemetery in Union, W.Va.
