God Belongs in Our County

Posted: Tuesday, Oct 9th, 2012

BUCKHANNON — On Thursday, city council approved a request from pastor Ed McDaniels to organize a prayer walk for area churches called “God Belongs in Our County” on Oct. 27.

McDaniels said the walk would be part of a nationwide movement that began when a group of Christian youth saw a sign on the subway in New York that said “A million New Yorkers are good without God. Are you?”

That sign spurred a movement of walks throughout the country, according to McDaniels.

He said while on a trip to Florida, he had witnessed a walk in Ocala called “God Belongs in Our City.” The local paper reported it drew 4,000 participants.

McDaniels said he had spoken with several area pastors who want to participate.

He said the general consensus was to call the walk “God Belongs in Our County” to make it more inclusive.

The walk would begin at 10 a.m. at city park, continue down Kanawha Street, cross at the intersection onto Main Street and end at Jawbone Park at noon.

City council approved the use of the parks and sidewalks on Thursday.
