TENNERTON — The Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buccaneers won their seventh straight Big Ten Conference volleyball match by following their most dramatic script of the season, defeating the Liberty Lady Mountaineers in four games Thursday.

The Lady Bucs dropped the opening game 25-21 and rallied to win a nail-biting second game 28-26. B-U then dominated each of the next two games and won by identical 25-13 scores, improving their season record to 15-3-2 and their Big Ten ledger to a perfect 7-0.

“Tonight’s game was all about who could execute and be crisp — who could serve the ball, pass the ball and finish on kills,” B-U head coach Sheena Westfall said after the match.

“We were fortunate enough that we have girls on the bench who can step into a spot and still fill it. I told the girls going into the third and fourth games, and especially the fourth game, that it was going to, number one, come down to who wants it, and number two, who’s not going to let their bodies tell them to quit.”
