TENNERTON — The Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers matched their highest single-game offensive output Tuesday, defeating the Liberty Mountaineers 7-1 in a Big Ten Conference soccer matchup.

Marcus Lofton scored a first-half hat trick, including the game’s first goal in the opening minute of play, and B-U leading scorer Marty Elliot racked up two goals and an assist in the Bucs’ second straight win. B-U improved to 9-6-0 overall and 7-2 in the Big Ten heading into Thursday’s game at Grafton.

“Tonight was another game of smart, aggressive play and making the simple passes,” B-U head coach Mike Donato remarked. “No matter who we had playing, our flow and tempo never slowed down. The bulk of our attack came from the play of our wings. Our rotation we worked on each side did everything we asked — staying wide, running hard on each through ball and sending the ball back in quickly and efficiently.”
