BUCKHANNON — Two men were arrested while allegedly cooking methamphetamine Friday evening in the city limits.
Allen Lee Stanley, 33, and Steven Sean Bennett, 37, both of Buckhannon, were arrested for operating or attempting to operate clandestine drug lab, a felony.
The Buckhannon Police Department received a call from an anonymous citizen who said they had found a plastic bottle with the bottom melting in it by the walking trail, according to the criminal complaint in the Upshur County Magistrate Clerk’s office.
Chief Matt Gregory said officers followed up the tip and investigated in that area, finding enough evidence to secure the search warrant at 74 Wood St. and raid the residence.
The BPD was assisted by the Upshur County Sheriff’s Department and West Virginia State Police.
Because a state trooper is a certified technician, he was able to secure the items found in hazmat containers which a hazmat team later picked up, according to Gregory.
