Local hotels help county beat the blizzard

Posted: Sunday, Nov 4th, 2012

BUCKHANNON — As Upshur County has dealt with the effects of superstorm Sandy, including a blizzard and power outages for much of the county, local hotels have helped make recovery efforts possible.

Since snow began to fall early Tuesday morning, hotels in the area have housed work crews, law enforcement and displaced residents, operating at full capacity each night.

Microtel normally charges $99-$109 a night, but reduced the rate to $79.99 when the storm hit this week, according to general manager Robyn Abraham.

“We had electric,” she said. “That’s where our blessing came in.”
