CLARKSBURG — Harry Lee Barnett, 84, of Clarksburg, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012 at United HospitalCenter in Bridgeport, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on Oct. 9, 1928 in Smithers, a son to the late, Dorcie H (Lanham) Barnett and Thomas G. Barnett.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Norma Jean (Bryant)Barnett of Clarksburg; a son, Steven A. Barnett and his wife, Sharon of Spanishburg, and two daughters, Beth Anne Russell of Clarksburg and Deborah L. Barnett of Buckhannon; seven grandchildren, Richard Michael Barnett, Brittney Robbins, Brian Barnett, Jessica Conner, Ashleigh Curry, Timothy Russell II and Ryan Barnett; five great-grandchildren, Ariana McDougal, Keersyn Robbins, Aireal Robbins,Nicholas Barnett and Chelsea Barnett;three brothers, Jerry L. Barnett, J.D. Barnett and Thomas L. Barnett.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, David and Richard Barnett.
Mr. Barnett served in the United States Army.
Harry was an avid golfer and he was a member of Sunny Croft Country Club in Clarksburg, and Pelican Bay Country Club of Daytona Beach, Fla., where they resided through the winter months for the past 20 years.
Harry was well known in the oil and gas industry. He retired from Dow-Chemical and continued to consult as a completions engineer. In 1985 he became part owner and president of Excel Energy, Inc. Harry was also president of Flame Duo, Inc. and a longtime member of Petroleum Engineers and IOGA of West Virginia.
Friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main St., Clarksburg today, Friday, Nov. 16 from 5 to 8 p.m. where a funeral service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012 at 10 a.m. with Pastor John Eklund presiding.
Entombment will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
