TENNERTON — The Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buccaneers trailed by 16 points through three quarters of their junior varsity basketball season debut Wednesday and came up short in a fourth-quarter comeback bid, falling to the Elkins Lady Tigers 31-26.

After the two teams played to a 4-4 tie through the first quarter, Elkins allowed just one B-U point in the second quarter and moved into a 15-5 halftime lead. Elkins ended the third quarter on a 5-0 run to claim their largest lead of the game at 28-12.

B-U did not allow Elkins a field goal in the fourth quarter and Lady Buc freshman Caitlyn Lampinen scored five of her team-high seven points in the fourth quarter.
