DEP to hear sewer appeal Dec. 13

Posted: Tuesday, Dec 4th, 2012

BUCKHANNON — The City of Buckhannon Sewer Department is moving forward with its appeal for what it deems are unreasonably strict requirements related to heavy metals.

The appeal was first filed in June against the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection’s Division of Water and Waste Management over the new permit effective July 1.

Sanitary Superintendent Sam Ludlow told Buckhannon City Council that a formal hearing has been scheduled for Dec. 13.

“We have a very good operation with our sewer system plant,” he said. “We regularly satisfy the requirements that we have had.”

However, Ludlow said that about every five years a new permit is issued which has new limits or requirements for the sewer plant to meet — and they are becoming stricter.
