SHINNSTON — The Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers opened their 2012-13 boys basketball season playing from behind and never caught up Tuesday in a 43-33 loss to the host Lincoln Cougars.
B-U trailed at the end of each quarter of play, with the Cougars holding an 8-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and an 18-14 lead at halftime. The Bucs shot 35 percent from the field in the opener on 14-for-40 shooting and committed 15 turnovers in the loss.
Lincoln guard Alec Moran led all scorers in the season tip-off for both teams, pouring in 17 points. Moran knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and shot 9-for-11 from the free-throw line.
