BUCKHANNON — A local physician’s wife questioned the Upshur County Emergency Medical Services’ position of wanting to take a patient to the nearest hospital even when her doctor asked otherwise at Thursday’s county commission meeting.
Teresa Khan, the wife of Dr. Ali Khan, told the commission that a patient came to her husband’s practice with a large abscess on Nov. 28.
“Where the abscess was located, it required a very specialized treatment in order to save this woman’s life,” she said.
Khan said the doctor felt the patient needed a vascular surgeon and an infectious disease specialist — neither of which St. Joseph’s Hospital has at this time.
