Police make arrest on 10-year-old warrant from Texas

BUCKHANNON — A Buckhannon man was arrested by the Upshur County Sheriff’s Department Wednesday on a bench warrant from Texas dating back 10 years.

Richard Wayne Edwards, 47, chose to fight his extradition to Bexar [pronounced ‘bear’] County, Texas during a hearing before Judge Thomas Keadle in Circuit Court Thursday afternoon.

Edwards was indicted by a grand jury in Texas for possession of marijuana, four ounces to five pounds, and a capias was issued in 2002, according to Keadle.

“They say they want you to come down there and answer to these charges,” Keadle told Edwards.

Attorney Steve Nanners, who has been retained by Edwards, said his client wished to fight extradition.
