ERIE — The West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats came up one point short in their opening game of last weekend’s Porreco Cup, hosted by Gannon (Pa.), but rebounded with a convincing win in Saturday’s consolation game.

The Virginia State Trojans ended Friday’s opening-round action on a 7-0 run to edge the Bobcats 65-64, but coach Patrick Beilein’s Wesleyan squad responded the next day with an 85-63 win over the Notre Dame (Ohio) Falcons.

Kelsey Williams registered his fourth and fifth straight double-doubles in the tournament, posting 20 points and 10 rebounds Friday and 26 points and 10 rebounds Saturday. Noah Cottrill also scored in double figures in both games, tallying 16 points Friday and a game-high 31 points Saturday in the Wesleyan win. Both Cottrill and Williams earned selections to the all-tournament team.
