I’m a fan first: Basketball’s most misunderstood rules from an official’s point of view

“That’s a FOUL, ref!” is what I heard resonating from the bleacher through the rest of the gymnasium as I ran from my spot trailing the play on one end of the basketball court to the lead position on the baseline on the court’s far end.

Then, just a second later in the same high-pitched voice, I heard the same fan yell to the middle school girls basketball player dribbling the ball, “KEEP GOING!”
