TENNERTON — The Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers knew they would have to kick off the 2012 football season against a brutal three-week stretch of competition, but what happened to the team over the next six weeks defied expectations.

The Bucs collected their first win of the season in a week-four Big Ten Conference matchup with North Marion, but instead of building momentum, B-U lost steam due to a slew of injuries that hit their front lines the hardest. All five of the Bucs’ opening-day starters on the offensive line missed more than one game during the season and 11 different B-U players started on the offensive line over the course of the season.

As a result, opponents rolled up more than 3,000 yards rushing against the Bucs over the 10-week season, while allowing B-U 1,257 yards rushing. Over the last five weeks of the season, opponents out-gained B-U on the ground by an average margin of 380-124.
