TENNERTON — The Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buccaneers’ top scoring duo combined for 27 points in Monday’s Big Ten Conference basketball matchup, but the North Marion Lady Huskies’ first-quarter surge propelled them to a 58-41 win over B-U.
North Marion jumped out to a 20-8 lead at the end of the first quarter of Monday’s game and never trailed the rest of the way. The Lady Huskies’ early run spoiled a 14-point night from the Lady Bucs’ leading scorer, Kelsey Hinzman, and a 13-point effort from point guard Jessica Feronti.
Hinzman, who averages a team-high 9.5 points per game, poured in four 3-pointers and sank both of her free-throw attempts. Feronti, averaging 7.5 points per game, scored twice from inside the arc and twice from behind the arc, while shooting 2-for-3 from the free-throw line.
