CLAY — Winter weather rerouted the Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneer wrestling team’s travel plans last weekend, but it did not stop five B-U athletes from winning tournament titles against competition from around the Mountain State.
The Bucs were originally scheduled to travel to Summersville for a quadrangular meet hosted by Nicholas County on Friday, then to New Lexington, Ohio for the Jimmy Wood Invitational the following day. When they were snowed out of both trips, they found a last-minute entrance to Clay County’s Bob Stover Classic, where they finished second among 10 teams.
The Bucs scored 162 total points and fielded more individual first-place winners than the first-place team, the host Clay County Panthers, who tallied 202 points and boasted four first-place wrestlers.
