BRIDGEPORT Mrs. Lou G. (Engle) Squires, 85, of Fairmont, died peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013. She was born on April 20, 1927, the daughter of the late Clyde and Omer Graham in Griffithsville.
Lou was a graduate of Huntington East High School and a West Virginia Wesleyan College Alumni. As well as a homemaker, she was a legal secretary for Judge Fred Fox in Fairmont. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Reverend Dr. Robert B. Engle, a United Methodist minister in West Virginia, who died in 1980.
On Aug. 13, 1988, Lou married Lt. Col. Donal Jack Squires, a Chaplain retired from the United States Air Force. Lou and Jack were very involved in various community activities and charities in the Fairmont area. They were especially dedicated supporters of the Fairmont State University Athletic Department, the American Legion, Marion County Chamber of Commerce and the American Cancer Society. Jack passed away in 2008, at which time Lou relocated to the Wishing Well Manor in Fairmont, where she made her home.
She is survived by a son, Stephen G. Engle and wife Carla of Bridgeport; two daughters, Susan J. Clayton and husband Jack of Fairmont, and Sherri L. Manzel and husband Rick of Colonial Heights, Va. Also surviving are grandchildren; Jeremy King, Amanda King, Chad Engle, Christopher Palmer and Wesley Palmer. She was extremely proud of her many great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Bridgeport United Methodist Church, 251 Worthington Drive, Bridgeport, on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013 from 10:30 11 a.m. A memorial service will be celebrated in the church on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Reverend Dr. Ken A. Ramsey and Reverend Stephen G. Engle presiding.
In lieu of flowers, because of her musical gifts a fitting memorial would be a gift in her memory to the Bridgeport United Methodist Church Piano Fund, 251 Worthington Drive, Bridgeport, WV 26330.
