TENNERTON — Lewis County center John Riley torched the Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers for a game-high 35 points Friday, leading the visiting Minutemen to an 85-57 win.

Riley scored 15 field goals, all of them in the lane, and shot 3-for-5 from the free-throw line. When he wasn’t scoring, Riley did all the little things to help his team win, grabbing offensive rebounds, dishing out assists to open cutters or 3-point shooters when double teams arrived and even taking a charge in the final minute of the second quarter.

Lewis County improved to 11-7 overall and 9-5 in the Big Ten Conference with the win, while the Bucs dropped to 2-18 overall and 1-13 against Big Ten rivals. Lewis County’s total of 85 points Friday marked the highest-single game total by a B-U opponent this season and the third time the Bucs’ defense has allowed more than 70 points.
