MORGANTOWN — Heading into the 2013 WVSSAC Swimming Championships, Buckhannon-Upshur coach Luanne Miller predicted the race for the girls 100 freestyle, in which B-U sophomore and defending state champion Maggie Miller was among the state’s top qualifiers, would be a “tough” three-way race.
Friday’s state championship round of the event did not disappoint.
Miller, Elkins sophomore Samantha Hall — the same swimmer with whom Miller shared a state title in the 50 freestyle last season and the 2013 50 freestyle champion — and George Washington senior Anna Davis all finished within one-tenth of a second of each other in a photo finish. Hall won the state title in the event with a time of 53.23 seconds, Miller came in a close second in 53.31 and Davis touched the wall right behind Miller in 53.33.
