MARTIN, KY. — Meredith Blaine “Mert” Depoy, 70, of Prestonsburg, Ky. died Saturday March 23, 2013 at Highlands Regional Medical Center. He was born Dec. 30, 1942 in Buckannon, W.Va., to the late Keith George and Norma Odice Farrar Depoy.
Mert served his country honorably as a torpedo-man aboard the nuclear submarine Sea Dragon for the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.
He is a past commander of the DAV Chapter 36 and a volunteer driver. Mr. Depoy is founder and owner of Mert’s Guns & Ammo in Allen. He is a member of the National Wild Turkey Federation, the National Rifle Association, the Beech Mountain Sportsman’s Club of Czar, W.Va. and a member of the Rock Cave Baptist Church, Rock Cave, W.Va.
He survived by his wife Ada Bowyer Depoy, his children: Blaine Wesley (Angie) DePoy of Prestonsburg, Ky. Michelle Leah (Shawn) Smith of Lancaster, and Yvette Lynn (Jackson) Latta of Prestonsburg, Ky.; brothers and sisters: Delmas Depoy of Madison, Ohio, Neil Depoy, Sue Zimmer, Patricia Campbell of Geneva, Ohio, and Bonnie Williams of Nashua, N.H.; grandchildren: Hannah DePoy, Joshua Smith, Wesley DePoy, Loren Stephens, Leah Smith, Rebecca Smith and Cecilia Latta. He was preceded in death by one sister: Norma Depoy. Funeral services will be held today, Monday, March 25, at 1 p.m. at Nelson Frazier Funeral Home in Martin with Grover Dean Jr., and Randy Polk officiating; and Tuesday, March 26, at 1 p.m. at Rock Cave Baptist Church in Rock Cave, W.Va. with Pastor David Jessie officiating.Visitation will be held after 5 p.m. Sunday at Nelson Frazier Funeral Home, with 6 p.m. services, and after 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Rock Cave Baptist Church. Burial will be held following services in Rock Cave at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Czar, W.Va. Nelson Frazier Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
