BUCKHANNON — Speed may have played a role in a one-vehicle wreck that claimed the lives of two Upshur County teenagers on Interstate-79 Saturday.
Dalton Shane Tenney, 19, of French Creek, and Kaitlyn Jane Hamilton, 17, of Tallmansville, died Saturday following the wreck, according to Harrison County Sheriff Albert Marano.
Tenney was driving a 2002 Mitsubishi Galant north on I-79 near mile marker 129 at 3:48 a.m. when he lost control, ran off the road way and struck a guardrail, according to Marano.
The vehicle overturned several times, ejecting both Tenney and Hamilton, who was the lone passenger in the vehicle.
“It doesn’t appear that they were wearing seatbelts,” Marano said.
Tenney died almost immediately after the wreck and Marano said that his department learned later Saturday afternoon that Hamilton had also died.
