Doyle Richard Carpenter

BELINGTON Mr. Doyle Richard Carpenter, 92, a resident of Serpell Ave., Belington, departed this life early Wednesday morning, April 10, 2013 in the Hospice Care Regional Impatient Center at Elkins.

He was born July 9, 1920 at French Creek, in Upshur County a son of the late Roy Melvin and Ella (Hunt) Carpenter. On Sept. 13, 1950 he was united in marriage to the former Mildred Virginia Conner who survives at their home in Belington.

Mr. Carpenter is survived by three sons: Tom Carpenter and wife Pat of Alabama, Bob Carpenter and wife Rhonda of Georgia, and Dale Carpenter and wife April of Georgia. He is also survived by four brothers: Olen Carpenter of West Virginia, Hugh Daniel Carpenter of Ohio, Willard Carpenter of West Virginia, Hub Carpenter of North Carolina, two sisters Opal Page of West Virginia and Dama Jean Stockard of West Virginia; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two infant daughters, and one sister Avis Cowger.

Mr. Carpenter attended the schools of Upshur County. He served in the United States Navy where he earned the rank of Chief Petty officer. After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy he then enlisted in the United States Air Force retiring in 1975 with the rank of master sergeant making him a veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was a lifetime member of the VFW Laurel Mountain Post 410 and American Legion Post 96 both of Belington. Upon retiring from the Air Force and returning to Barbour County he owned and operated a barber shop in Belington.

Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home in Belington on Saturday, April 13, from 7 to 9 p.m. and again on Sunday from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. the funeral hour when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jimmie E. Tallman officiating. Interment will follow in the Center Chapel Cemetery at French Creek, where full military rites will be accorded.
