BUCKHANNON — Franklin “Forrest” Stalnaker, 79, of Buckhannon, died at his home Sunday, April 14, 2013, under the care of his family and People’s Hospice. He was born May 26, 1933, in Lewis County, a son of the late Granville Clinton and Virginia Lee Berry Stalnaker. He is survived by his wife, Patty Strader Stalnaker; three daughters: Saundra Kay Stalnaker of Buckhannon, Melanie Stalnaker McGhee of Buckhannon and Melinda Faye Stalnaker Curry of Bridgeport; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Barrett Lee Stalnaker of North Carolina; and one sister, Sue Moore of Buckhannon. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by one grandson, three sisters, and three brothers.
Mr. Stalnaker served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of the Buckhannon VFW Post 3663, the Frank B. Bartlett Post 7 American Legion and the Franklin Lodge 7 AF & AM, where he served as Past Master on two different occasions. He was also a member of the Upshur County Shrine Club. He retired in 1991 from Mountaineer Gas Company. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Buckhannon where he had served as a past deacon.
Friends were received at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, April 16, 2013, from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at 1 p.m., at the funeral chapel with Rev. Robert F. Heavner and Pastor Jay Teodoro officiating. Interment will follow in the Buckhannon Memorial Park. Online condolences may be extended to the family at www.heavnerandcutright.com.
