Bobcats rebuild in spring practices

BUCKHANNON — As he began winter offseason workouts in January after just a month on the job as football head coach at West Virginia Wesleyan College, George Shehl began the first head-coaching gig of his career in memorable fashion.

Shehl remembers the first day of what would become months of 6 a.m. workouts, however, not because of its achievements, but rather for being “pretty ugly.” Since then, Shehl says he has trimmed down his roster to approximately 45 returning players, but says his program has “come a long way since then.”

“The biggest thing they didn’t understand was how to work the way we wanted them to work,” Shehl said, reflecting on his team’s now concluded spring practices.
