TENNERTON — Writing on a bathroom wall at Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School indicating a bomb would go off Friday afternoon led to the evacuation of the middle school. No evidence of a bomb was found and the building was later cleared by law enforcement.
Superintendent Scott Lampinen said that the bomb threat was discovered in the late morning written on the wall of one of the bathroom facilities at the middle school and was reported to administration.
After B-UMS administrators viewed the threat, they immediately put safety protocols in place, according to Lampinen.
“Law enforcement was contacted and B-UMS students were evacuated to the buses,” he said. “We have to take all the threats seriously.
“The buses transported students and staff to Buckhannon-Upshur High School where they were housed in the auditorium,” he said.
Lampinen said the written note did indicate that a bomb would go off at a certain time but did not elaborate on what time that was.
“The building was evacuated well prior to the indicated time,” he said. “Law enforcement was on scene very quickly and a search of the building was conducted and declared to be all clear.”For the complete article see the 04-22-2013 issue.
