BUCKHANNON — The first reading of the Junk Storage ordinance was approved unanimously by Buckhannon City Council during Thursday’s meeting.
The ordinance will prohibit storing or collecting certain materials — including junk, rubbish, clutter, litter, debris, lumber, upholstered furniture and other materials not normally intended or designed for outside use — on any enclosed porch, front yard, balcony, deck or patio.
The ordinance states that notwithstanding the city’s efforts, certain residential and property owners have continued to engage in activities and conduct that the council determines to be detrimental to the general health, safety, welfare and positive appearance and aesthetic appeal of their neighborhoods and further depreciate the value of their own property as well as surrounding properties.
