BUCKHANNON — The City of Buckhannon has settled a lawsuit brought by former Buckhannon police officer Loralie Hissam.
The city will agree to pay Hissam $15,000 in damages as part of the settlement.
Hissam was originally seeking $75,000 from the lawsuit.
“I am happy that the city was able to settle for considerably less than what the plaintiff was seeking,” mayor Kenny Davidson said.
The lawsuit, filed on Jan. 7 in a federal court in West Virginia’s Northern District, alleged that Hissam was required by the City of Buckhannon and Chief Matt Gregory to provide for the total care of the police dog Tess that was owned by the City of Buckhannon and the Buckhannon Police Department.
