BUCKHANNON — A man who traded identities with another inmate in Marion County and escaped custody Tuesday was captured the following day in Upshur County by the U.S. Marshals Service.
This was the second arrest of Kevin Gregory, 42, made by U.S. Marshals this summer, according to supervisory deputy U.S. Marshal Alex Neville.
On June 19, the U.S. Marshals office had captured Gregory as a fugitive from Virginia and an unregistered sex offender, according to Neville.
But on Tuesday, Aug. 13, Gregory reportedly switched arm bands with another inmate, Bruce Clayton, who was scheduled to be released on home confinement, according to Neville.
Gregory — with Clayton’s arm band — was then released before officers discovered the mistake.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Department obtained a warrant for Gregory’s arrest for the escape.
