Lady Bucs measure up against out-of-region teams in quad scrimmage

TENNERTON ó The Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buccaneers gave their first sneak preview of their new lineup and new coaching staff Saturday in a quad scrimmage at Ted Crites Alumni Field.

The Lady Bucs, who are replacing nine starters from their 2012 team and are now under the direction of head coach Jackie Zuliani and assistant coach Will Squires, played to a 1-1 draw in their 40-minute half of varsity play against St. Albans and fell to the defending state champions from Winfield, 2-0. Elkinsí Lady Tigers also joined in the scrimmage, but the Big Ten Conference rivals did not square off in the preseason event.

B-U defender Alayna Wright scored the teamís lone goal of the afternoon in varsity play, tying the scrimmage with St. Albans at a goal apiece on a free kick from 30 yards out with 12:53 left in the period. Wright placed her shot from the center of the field in the top corner of the net, just underneath the crossbar.
