BUCKHANNON — Throw in some sweat, a few sore muscles and a lot of mud and that was the recipe for the first ever 5 Alarm Mud Run Saturday morning just off the

Hardman Road on Route 33.

The 5 Alarm Mud Run was a fundraising event put on by the Buckhannon Fire Department. The tagline for the event was “Get Dirty and Be Challenged.”

More than 80 participants decided to tackle the 3 ˝ mile course which included numerous obstacles that included a water slide, tunnels ending in a pool of icy cold water, climbing 10 + foot walls, water and creek crossings, various terrain and of course mud.

Those who ran the course described it as challenging but fun.

“This was a fantastic event,” said runner Travis Foster, who serves as the head basketball coach at Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School. “This is my second time participating in a mud run. My first was the Warrior Dash in Logan, Ohio and I can tell you that this course was a lot harder and much more challenging.”
