TENNERTON — Arthur B. Gobeli, 87, of Helvetia, passed away Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013 at his home. He was born April 23, 1925 in Helvetia, a son of the late John and Clara Koerner Gobeli. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death on Feb. 11, 2001 by his wife, Helen Rose Hosaflook Gobeli, whom he married on Nov. 6, 1948, and also, son, William Roger Gobeli; an adopted son, Junior Gobeli and an adopted daughter, Francis Shields.
Arthur is survived by his son, Benjamine A. Gobeli of Philippi; grandchildren, Christopher Adam Gobeli of Sylva, N.C. and Pamela Christina Bailey of Salem; three great-grandchildren, Linzy Brooke Stuart, Alexis Rose Stuart and Bristol Marie Bailey; stepgreat-grandson, Eli Bailey and two brothers, Johnnie Gobeli and Donald Gobeli both of Baltimore, Md.
He was a member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. During
World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, he was stationed in the Philippians and Japan. After returning from the war, he was a farmer, in the logging and lumber business and with his son Bill, they made rustic fences for years.
Arthur had worked for 23 years for the Carter Roag Coal Company and retired in 1991 as a plant operator.
The family will have a Memorial Service at 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept.14, 2013 at the Tomblyn Whitescarver Funeral Chapel in Buckhannon, with graveside services following in the Upshur County Memorial Park in Tennerton.
