Justice Robin Jean Davis delivers Founders Day keynote

Posted: Tuesday, Oct 15th, 2013

W.Va. Supreme Court justice Robin Jean Davis, a 1978 WVWC graduate, talks about how her ‘Wesleyan connections’ played a role throughout her life during her Founders Day keynote speech on Friday.

BUCKHANNON — A West Virginia Supreme Court Justice attributes her successful career to the education she received and the connections she made while at West Virginia Wesleyan College.

Justice Robin Jean Davis graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1978, and during the Founders Day Convocation Friday she was presented with the Doctor of Laws honorary degree, the highest honor bestowed by Wesleyan.

After accepting her honorary degree from WVWC President Pamela Balch, Davis described the Wesleyan Connect — a term she has given to the support she has received from Wesleyan connections throughout her professional life.

“When I graduated from Wesleyan, I took not only a great education with me but an arsenal of professional West Virginia Wesleyan help,” she said.

Davis applied for a prestigious master’s degree program in industrial relations at West Virginia University.

“I called upon my professors at West Virginia Wesleyan to write letters of recommendation for me,” she said.

Because some of the industrial relations classes she enjoyed most were related to law, Davis decided a law degree would be the next step in her professional life.
