TENNERTON — The Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers had to overcome the elements and the Elkins Tigers Wednesday evening to win the Class AAA Region II, Section 2 boys soccer championship for the second straight year.

On a night when rain soaked the grass surface of Ted Crites Alumni Field and slowed both rival sides, only one goal was necessary was from the highest-scoring team in West Virginia. Dylan Hall ran free in the middle of the field on a quick counter-attack and fired a shot from 30 yards out that soared into the top left corner of the net, past a helpless Tyler Gray, the Elkins goalkeeper.

The 1-0 win by the Bucs in the sectional title game marked the second time in the last eight days that coach Mike Donato’s squad edged Elkins by a one-goal margin.
