Bernadine McCray

IRELAND, W.Va. — Bernadine McCray, 98, of Ireland, W.Va., the Wildcat Community, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013 at her home.

She was born April 12, 1915 in Wildcat. She is preceded in death her parents, Welton Branch and Flora Forinash McCray; sisters, Merle McCray and Retta Beckman; brothers, Lawrence, James Arris, Ralph and infant brother, David.

Surviving are a sister-in-law, Lucille McCray of Ireland; nieces and nephews, Eletha “Lea” Smarr of Buckhannon; Leonard (Nola) McCray of Hacker Valley; Wanda (Carl) Greathouse of Salem; Vonda (Kenneth) Dye of Jane Lew; Yvonne McCray, Willa Radcliff, Jay Beckman, Joe (Beverly) Beckman and Diane (Friel) Boggs all of Weston; Brenda (Harold) Helmick of Roanoke; Carol McCray and Darley McCray, both of Ireland; Martha Sue McCray of Dunmore; Harold (Naomi) McCray of Virginia and several generations of great-nieces and great-nephews.

Bernadine was a lifelong member of Elijah Chapel United Methodist Church at Bablin, where she held many offices in the church and was a past teacher. In her earlier years, she worked for W.Va. Glass Company in Weston, Homer Laughlin China Company in Newell, and was the postmistress at the Wildcat Post Office from 1960 to 1981. She will be sadly missed by her family of nieces and nephews and a host of friends

The family will receive friends from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013 at the Alkire Funeral Chapel in Ireland, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013 with the Rev. Dwayne Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the McCray Cemetery in Duffy.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made to the McCray Cemetery Fund in C/O United Bank, 202 Main Ave, Weston, WV 26452 or to the Elijah Chapel UM Church in C/O of Shirley Boggs, 101 McCutchan Road, Walkersville, WV 26447.
